Marsh Road is a new three bedroom holiday home on the north Shore of the Isle of Wight at a point where the River Luck meets the sea.
The house sits within a flood risk area identified by The Environment Agency. The Manser Practice’s solution to this problem was to design a series of ‘W’ shaped galvanised steel frames, raising the house up approximately 2m above floodwater levels and creating a sheltered parking area below.
On top of this, two lightweight parallel pitch roof gable end ‘sheds’ contain the living areas and bedroom/bathrooms respectively, whilst a corrugated iron watch tower houses utility and study. The overall project cost was just over £200,000.
