This feasibility study for Imperial College, London, was developed in response to an open brief. We were asked to assess the potential to create additional student common rooms and administrative office space at the college’s Sherfield Building in London.
Our proposal involves extending the existing building to the South, to create a new lightweight, fully glazed elevation. By removing the existing double corridor configuration and replacing it with a new clearly defined circulation zone, the floor area available for offices and common rooms is significantly increased.
Coloured, fritted, glass louvres create depth and interest while providing solar shading to the new south facing glazed façade.
