Michael qualified in 1954 and went on to establish Michael Manser Associates in 1960. He was President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (1983-85) and was widely recognised as an innovator, educator, writer and leader in the profession.
Michael’s first house was for his parents and more followed including his family home. He continued to produce innovative houses and established a reputation as a modernist. He was influenced by Mies van der Rohe, the California Case study houses, Andrea Palladio, and the mathematics of proportion. He met fellow Modernists through his journalism in the 1950s / 1960s; writing for the Observer, Architectural Design and Home magazine.
